Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards.
I was reminded of this Kierkegaard quote yesterday while meditating on turning 46. How fabulously true and beautiful! The backwards understanding is so satisfying and rich . . . and the forward motion so enticing and promising. To stay exactly on that self-aware precipice – right on that cusp of the next present moment, and then the next . . . that’s the trick, isn’t it?
