It’s the hap-happiest season of all… (no pressure THERE)

‘Tis the season to be jolly, right? So if you’re not, what the heck is wrong with you? The biggest contributor to the holiday blues is the inescapable expectation that we’re supposed to be extra joy-filled this time of year. Every movie, commercial, and song is reminding us to feel ecstatically happy, loving, giving, and generous toward everyone we encounter.

But what if we aren’t authentically feeling that way . . .

and we hadn’t noticed it until “the season” brought that to our attention? We want to feel grateful for all we have, and excited about the promise of a new year.

All these expectations bring up the one question we can easily avoid asking ourselves during all those other less-festive seasons:

 Am I happy?

Yummiest holiday love to you and yours!

Holiday CRAZIES got hold of you yet?

I adore and look forward to the holidays, but every year I seem to conveniently forget how freaking crazy-making this season can get. I’m a party girl at heart, so I can’t say no to any holiday gathering. My perpetually unconquerable To-Do list mocks me. And I’m definitely forgetting to take my own advice about being fully present for each and every one of these yummy holiday-time moments. Why is that so especially hard to do this time of year?

Happy Rationalization Season!

My fabulous friend Sarah and I have discovered a new reason to love this crazy time of year. It’s Rationalization Season! You can rationalize all kinds of indulgences with a shrug and a “Oh well, it’s the holidays.” I hadn’t seen the inside of a mall since the Easter Bunny was holding court, but this month I feel perfectly justified in reaching over the mountains of work on my desk to grab my keys for a fun mall run. And if Sarah and I happen to find ourselves at a mall café sipping cappuccino at four in the afternoon (oh who’s kidding who—we’re sipping Pinot Noir) we can justify that with a ‘tis-the-season toast. I’m indulging right now in a festive Disney getaway with my kids. We deserve it! Bottom line: You can let the extra stress and holiday blues get the best of you, or you can choose to make the season a reason for tinsel-twinkling self-love! Go the Juicy Joyful route.
